12 October 2017 (Thursday: 9.45am start; finish at 1pm)  Shropshire’s Amazing Journey (speaker Michael Rosenbaum) plus tours of the Shropshire Museums Resource Centre in Ludlow looking at the work of the Fossils in Shropshire project with a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes. Free but advance booking required by clicking here. This morning will be Shropshire's contribution to the national Earth Science Week; the week's theme is ‘Our Restless Earth’, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Plate Tectonics theory.

01 June 2017  The first of a series of public lectures to be held in the Buttercross Museum, on the first Thursday of every month. Click this link for a report on Facebook.

14 March 2017  The public launch of the Ludlow Castle Heraldic Roll of 1576 appeal. This will be held on Tuesday 14th March at the Ludlow Lecture in the Assembly Rooms on that day (10.00-12.00 £5). Rosalind Caird will speak about Sir Henry Sidney and the roll, then Hugh Wood will talk about the heraldry. Those attending the lecture will then be invited to view the roll in Oscars. The roll will then be on public display until 3 pm with the official launch at 12.15. Click here for further details of this acquisition.

02 August 2016  The Ludlow Museum in the Buttercross is now open regularly, 3 days a week 10.00-16.00 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday; special arrangements apply on Bank Holidays; refer to the Town Council web site for further information, by clicking here). Andy Boddington, a local councillor, has written a review of the open day here.

30 July 2016 (Saturday)  The Ludlow Museum has an open day in the Buttercross and visitors are welcome 11.00-15.00.

12 July 2016  Recruitment of part-time museum assistants for Ludlow Museum is currently underway. Closing date 19 July. Click here to apply.

19 May 2016  The issue of a press release for
the project to digitise the geology collections has prompted a number of articles in the local press, for instance in the Shropshire Star.

11 May 2016  The Shropshire Star reports that the Council are considering allowing a private company to run the museums, possibly including those within neighbouring counties as well as Shropshire.

7 May 2016  Proposal to transfer funding of museums from county to local councils raises concerns.


5 May 2016  Work has now started on the project to digitise the geology collections held by Shropshire Museum Service.


3 May 2016  The concept of a Trust has been mooted as Shropshire Council continues on the path of zero funding for museums by April 2017.
